Jiggers Bank set to shut for eleven days
A busy main road is due to close for almost two weeks next month for major repair work and inspection of the overhanging rock face.
Main road Jiggers Bank and Cherry Tree Hill, which run through Coalbrookdale, will both be closed from November 5 to 16. Telford & Wrekin Council will close the roads to carry out major works including drainage repairs. They will also finish work for the new Ironbridge Park and Ride Scheme.
And they will repair safety barriers and fen-ces, walls and potholes.
A number of council teams will be involved in the project along with the Severn Gorge Countryside Trust helping to combine the work, repairs and inspections.
Access for residents in Cherry Tree Hill and Jiggers Bank will be through barriers at the junction of School Road with Wellington Road.
A gateman will also be in place during working hours to help manage access to the two roads.
It is hoped the project will also improve visibility for motorists with workers trimming back hedges and foliage, and felling trees.
Inspections are also due to be carried out on the rock- face, while the road surfaces will be looked at for possible repairs ahead of a further maintenance scheme to be carried out next year.
A council spokesman said that next year's scheme will consist of extensive patching to the road surfaces and will be finished before the Ironbridge Park and Ride site is reopened for 2013. The patching will be followed by surface dressing during the summer months of 2013.
Councillor Shaun Davies, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services and Co-operative Council, said: "We appreciate that this work will cause some disruption but we have ensured that closures will be kept to an absolute minimum by working closely with other organisations to maximise the amount of work that is done.
"I would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience that is caused but all the work that needs to be carried out is essential."
