Engineers assess Shropshire A49 flood damage
Investigations are being carried out by specialist engineers on Shropshire's A49 to determine the extent of the damage caused by this week's flooding.
Officials from the Highways Agency are examining a stretch of the road which lies between Church Stretton and Marshbrook after parts of the carriageway and verge were found to be damaged.
They were at the scene yesterday and returned today before making a full report into what repairs will be needed. A section of the verge on the bends at Marshbrook has been cordoned off in a bid to prevent further damage being caused by cars and lorries using the road.
The road was closed for several hours to traffic heading southbound on Wednesday after sections of it were left underwater following heavy rainfall.
It comes after Highways Agency officials started major resurfacing work between Craven Arms and Bushmoor earlier this week, which will see the road closed overnight for up to three weeks.
And further resurfacing work and road signage improvements are planned at Bayston Hill on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.
The road will be shut in the area overnight from December 12 for four weeks spanning Christmas and the new year.
