Jiggers Bank to stay shut after rockfall
A road in Shropshire will remain closed over the weekend after a major rockfall, council chiefs said today.
Bosses at Telford & Wrekin Council admitted they were still unable to say exactly when Jiggers Bank, in Ironbridge, would reopen.
Diversions will continue to operate, using the Buildwas bypass from Dale End.
Telford & Wrekin Council spokesman Russell Griffin said: "The collapse follows the recent heavy rains, and engineers have been forced to remove more than 40 tonnes of debris to start to make the rock face stable.
"Engineers have also found a further section of rock that could collapse and will need to remove or stabilise this before the road can reopen.
"The rockfall is in an area nowhere near the spot that engineering works took place earlier this month."
He added that further updates would also be published on the council's Facebook and Twitter pages.
