Network Rail officials identified a signalling problem near Wolverhampton shortly after 8.20am today.

A spokesman for the company said British Transport Police were at the scene investigating whether the problem had been caused by cable theft.

A statement from National Rail said: "A signalling problem is causing disruption near Wolverhampton. Because of this, there are delays of up to 30 minutes between Wolverhampton and Stafford/ Shrewsbury. There is no current estimate for when a normal service will resume."

London Midland was running replacement coaches between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton.
