Powys County Council said the A483 and A489 through Newtown will be closed in various spots starting on February 17.

The work will affect Llanidloes Road, Dolfor Road and New Road but is being carried out at one location at a time and in four phases to minimise disruption, the council said.

Councillor Barry Thomas, cabinet member for highways, said the work was being done before the road, which has a number of potholes, gets any worse.

He said: "The work is being done on Sundays to minimise disruption and reduce the impact, although it is inevitable there will be some delays and we apologise for any inconvenience.

"The work adjusting manhole covers and gully gratings, laying a new surface and repainting road markings.

"Residents who park on the affected roads will be asked to find alternatives, with the contractor contacting properties and leaving details on vehicles at least 24 hours before work starts.

On February 17 the A483 will be closed at the Queen's Head pub from 8am to 8pm; the following weekend, the A483/A489 Dolfor Road junction will shut from 5.30pm on February 23 to 8pm on February 24; on March 10 the A489 at Trehafren will be shut from 8am to 8pm and on March 17 and 24, the A489 will be closed from Trehafren to Nantoer.
