Trains hit by delays between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton after line signals problem
Hundreds of rail commuters in Shropshire faced delays today due to signalling problems on the line between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton.
Trains were delayed by up to 30 minutes due to a problem with line-side equipment.
Network Rail engineers were trying to fix the fault, which meant trains had to travel at a reduced speed, but there was no indication when a normal service would resume.
Arriva Trains Wales spokesman Lewis Brencher said: "Due to a problem with line-side signalling equipment at 5.40am, services between Shrewsbury and Wellington are currently running at reduced speed, causing delays of up to 30 minutes on that route.
"Network Rail staff are on site working to repair the fault, but there is no estimate for when this will be completed.
"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
He advised people to check for updates on the company's website.
The problems in Shropshire were among a number of hitches across the country.
There were hold-ups of up to 90 minutes through Worcester Shrub Hill also due to a signalling problem.
No trains were able to run in and out of Moorgate station in London due to a line-side fire and there were also delays in and out of another major London terminus, Waterloo, due to a signalling problem at Clapham Junction in south London.
