More Shropshire rail delays hit rush hour

Rail passengers in Shropshire faced long delays for the second day in a row after a freight train broke down.

The incident happened between Shrewsbury and Craven Arms at about 7am, resulting in bus replacement services being set up.

The problem added around an hour to journey times for rush hour commuters this morning.

Trains began running again at about 9am, but the 60 minute delay to journeys was still continuing.

Services between Cardiff and Manchester passing through Shropshire were also reduced to one train an hour in both directions.

A Network Rail spokesman said: "Network Rail apologise for the disruption this has caused."

It follows similar problems yesterday when a train broke down near Ludlow.
