Summer roadworks planned for Telford town centre
Telford is set for a summer of roadworks, with roads being dug up in the centre of the town as well as in Wellington and Dawley.
Motorists in Wellington will have to endure six weeks of works as Telford & Wrekin Council carries out extensive maintenance work.
In Dawley there will be eight weeks of roadworks as traffic management work at King Street begins.
Telford and Wrekin Council says it is using the summer break from schools to carry out the work when roads are at their quietest.
The work in Dawley will start on Monday and is in combination with the construction of the Phoenix School.
Councillor Shaun Davies said: "This represents part of an extremely significant investment by Telford & Wrekin Council in the quality of our highways and is a major piece of work.
"I appreciate that this will in some cases cause inconvenience and disruption but we will do our very best to keep this to an absolute minimum. I would like to thank everyone in advance for their co-operation and patience while this work is being undertaken."
More than £14 million is being invested this year in improving, repairing and making roads safer in Telford and Wrekin.
Residents are being invited to a drop in session at Wellington Civic Offices on Tuesday which will detail the work that is due to be carried out in Wellington.
Meanwhile, plans for the Box Road around Telford Shopping Centre will go on display outside Next in the shopping centre on July 19 and 20. The roads around Telford Shopping Centre are to be made two-way thanks to a Government cash boost of £6 million.
The four roads known as the Box Road – Woodhouse Central, Lawn Central, Grange Central and Coach Central – are currently one-way.
Council chiefs believe making the route two-way would help traffic flow more easily around the town and also link the town centre to the new £50 million Southwater development.
