Shropshire Council contractors have been strengthening the Beech House Canal Bridge, known locally as the Red Bridge, between Ellesmere and Tetchill, since July 1.
It was due to remain shut until the end of this month. But it has now reopened and will have a traffic light control system in place for the rest of the work.
The bridge carries a road over the Shropshire Union Canal and residents were concerned about being cut off when the work was first announced.
In January contractors will carry out work to the underside of the bridge which will close the canal for up to five weeks.
