37-mile diversion as A483 to be shut for two nights
The A483 between Oswestry and Welshpool will be closed for two nights next week, with drivers facing a 37-mile diversion.
Holidaymakers returning late from Wales to Shropshire after the Bank Holiday could find their journey interrupted.
The road will be shut between 8pm and 6am on Tuesday and Wednesday for emergency resurfacing of two sections of the road just south of Oswestry.
Drivers will be diverted from Welshpool along the A458 to Bicton Heath on the outskirts of Shrewsbury before turning back north east onto the A5 to Oswestry or vice versa.
A spokesman for Shropshire Council said that access to frontages up to the points of the actual roadworks would be available.
The section of road to be resurfaced on Tuesday is at Gwern y Brenin between Oswestry and the Llynclys crossroads while the work on the Wednesday will be at Penyfoel between Llynclys and Llanymynech.
The spokesman said: "Emergency vehicle access will be maintained for the duration of the works, if you need to enter the works area in an emergency situation please drive carefully through the works area and comply to the site speed limit."
