The work will close the A490 between Chirbury and the county boundary near Churchstoke and is expected to take seven weeks.

The work will be completed using daytime closures from 9am to 3pm for the first two weeks.

The programme will then switch to night-time closures from 8pm to 6am for the remaining five weeks and two-way traffic lights during the day.

Any residents and businesses within the closed section of road will be able to access their properties during the closure periods.

There will also be access for pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders, emergency services and bin lorries.

Shropshire Council has described the work as essential. It today renewed an appeal for motorists to be patient while the work is carried out, and offered apologies for any inconvenience that may be caused.

A signed diversion route, suitable for HGVs will be in place via Welshpool and Newtown while the road is closed.

There is also an alternative route on the B road network via Montgomery but this will not be signposted.
