Train delays for Shropshire passengers after bridge fire

Rail passengers from Shrewsbury and Telford heading to the Welsh coast are facing delays today because of a fire at Barmouth Bridge railway viaduct.

Arriva Trains Wales said services between Shrewsbury and Pwllheli, via Aberystwyth on the Cambrian Line, have been affected.

Fire crews from Barmouth, Harlech and Aberdyfi have been at the scene since the call out shortly after 6am this morning.

Replacement bus services are being used with the line closed between Tywyn and Barmouth.

Network Rail said the line would remain closed until its engineers were able to carry out an on-site assessment.

Meanwhile, trespassers disrupted train services between Gobowen and Wrexham General on Monday afternoon.

Arriva Trains Wales said lines between Gobowen Railway Station and Wrexham General were disrupted for a brief time following reports of trespassers on the line at 4.06 pm.
