Shropshire roadworks alert as Severn Trent to spend £850,000 on pipe replacement
Severn Trent is to spend about £850,000 replacing nearly five miles of pipes in south Shropshire.
It means weeks of roadworks – but the company says it is essential to improve water quality. Work will start in January to replace water mains in Craven Arms Road, Aston on Clun, and on the B4367. It is expected to be completed by the end of March.
Engineers will also start next month in Pitchford working towards the direction of the Severn Trent pumping station in Uffington, near Shrewsbury. It is expected to take between five and six months to complete and could run on until July.
Finally, water main renewal work will take place from January until mid to late February on the B4202 at Clows Top towards Cleobury Mortimer.
Three drop-in sessions will be held next week in areas where the work will be taking place.
Severn Trent spokesman Gareth Mead added: "It's really vital we do this work in Shropshire as the benefits will be enormous for the communities.
"We want to continue to provide the local people with top quality drinking water and make sure they experience fewer bursts and interruptions.
"We're going to wait until after Christmas before we start as we want to cause as little disruption as possible over the holiday."
The public sessions will take place on Monday at Pitchford Village Hall, near Shrewsbury, and at Aston on Clun village hall, both from 4pm to 7pm.
And on Wednesday there will be a meeting at Clows Top Victory Hall, near Cleobury Mortimer, from 3pm to 6pm.
Mr Mead added: "We're really excited to start this project and to help everything run as smoothly as possible. We really want to hear from the local people, as after all, they know the area the best.
"We'd also want to hear any hints or tips for when we work in Shropshire that could help us to do the work with the minimum disruption."
Severn Trent is behind troubled roadworks on Limekiln Bank in Priorslee, Telford, which have overrun.
The company was accused of "incompetence" by Telford & Wrekin Council, which has called for an apology and compensation after a summer completion date was missed. The roundabout will now be closed overnight from 8pm to 6am from tonight until December 23 to enable overnight surfacing works.
This will result in some noise disruption for local residents.
