Half-term tourists get alert on Welshpool road repairs
Disruption is expected for motorists in the tourist hotspot of Welshpool during the half-term holiday next week.
Severn Trent will be carrying out major pipe repairs to the water supply.
The company says it will be doing the repair work to make sure residents in Welshpool have a water supply that they can rely on.
It said the work is due to start on Monday and should take five days to complete.
The works are the latest to be carried out by Severn Trent as part of a programme of works across the whole of Shropshire and Mid Wales.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place in the area affected while the new valves are installed to make sure engineers from Amey can work safely.
The company will be replacing a number of valves on the water pipe beneath Severn Road between Howell Drive and the police station, which is in between Welshpool Railway Station and the canal wharf.
Gareth Mead, from Severn Trent, said the work was necessary and that every effort would be made to minimise disruption.
He said: "This is important work to make sure the valves on the pipe are fit for purpose and continue to provide everyone in Welshpool with a reliable source of fresh water.
"Over time, valves and pipes can become more prone to leaks and bursts – that's why we've taken the decision to carry out this work now, to help prevent any problems occurring in the future.
"We'll work as quickly as possible to minimise any local disruption this causes and we'll be sure to allow access to local shops and businesses as much as possible."
"This is essential work to upgrade the network in Welshpool and we hope local people will understand the benefits this will have."
