Scotland Street was closed last week to allow resurfacing work to take place.
It was due to reopen on Friday but was delayed until Monday due to a breakdown of machinery.
The roadworks have been causing problems for businesses and residents in the town.
Residents have claimed signs and lights from the roadworks have been blocking pavements.
Lincoln McMullan, who owns The Signtists in Scotland Street, said the work had left the town "dead" and had affected the weekly market.
Despite the disruption, councillors in the town have said the work is needed.
