The woman was cut free from the vehicle before being taken to hospital, while the man was taken to hospital to be checked over.

Emergency services were called to the collision on the A5 near Queens Head, south of Oswestry, at about 2.45pm yesterday.

An air ambulance also landed at the scene, and took one of the patients to hospital.

Oswestry Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team confirmed the injuries suffered in the crash were not believed to be life-threatening.

Four fire crews from Oswestry, Baschurch and Wellington, as well as the Rescue Tender and an operations officer also attended the scene.

Firefighters used cutters and spreaders to get the woman out of one of the vehicles.

The crash caused hold-ups for motorists yesterday afternoon, who were diverted through nearby village West Felton, as the road was closed in both directions for a number of hours.

John Sambrooks, who was caught up in the traffic, described the roads as "chaos" following the accident.

He said: "The roads were absolute chaos and closed in both directions with traffic being diverted through West Felton. All in all it took took me about half an hour to get through it."
