Traffic was moving but congested through Ludlow's central High Street and Castle Square this afternoon as it was having to make its way around the lorry and coach which were stranded in the centre of town.

The only route out of town for large vehicles is Brand Lane, a one-way street linking Broad Street with Old Street, which is having to have electricity and water connections installed.

Both Ludlow's new mayor Councillor Tim Gill and Shropshire councillor Andy Boddington warned the works may lead to problems as to get out from the town's central square, traffic will either have to go under Broad Gate, a narrow arch at the bottom of Broad Street, or via a steep, narrow, and winding road to the side of Ludlow Castle at Dinham – with the latter being recommended at the official diversion route despite containing a sharp turn that long vehicles cannot pass.

Police were called to help aid the bus and lorry find a way out of town.
