120 Albrighton residents sign petition over new bus route
More than 120 residents in a village have signed a petition over a new bus route that bypasses a village.
The petition was launched by Albrighton resident and bus user Margaret Brookes as she feels herself and other non-drivers will be “cut off from the outside world" by the new Arriva service.
There is currently a Banga bus service that runs through Albrighton but the 64-year-old said it is "very limited".
Mrs Brookes said she is hoping for more people to sign the petition and join her in campaigning for a better bus service.
"At the moment we've got about 120 signatures so far, hopefully we'll get some more," she added.
"What I would like is an improved bus service to the one we've got.
"At the moment what Arriva has done is they've put a circular bus on from Wolverhampton to Telford but it cuts us out completely and I can' understand why they've done it."
Mrs Brookes added that there were no services on bank holidays and on Saturdays the last bus back from Wolverhampton was at 2.25pm.
She said: "We want a better service on a Saturday and a Sunday. You can't have a day shopping in Wolverhampton on a Saturday because the last but back is at 2.25pm.
"On bank holidays we can't go anywhere, there's no buses to get out of the village.
"I'm a non-driver and I used to live in Tettenhall and buses were every seven minutes.
"I got married and moved here as it's where my husband lives. We're a little bit stranded here really.
"People in the village drive, but if they have an illness that stops them from driving, they will soon see what it is like for non-drivers.
"People feel so cut off, particularly the elderly, they rely on it really."
The petition can be found in bus shelters in Albrighton High Street.
