Bridge near Shrewsbury to close for two days
A bridge on a country road north of Shrewsbury will close for repairs on Monday.
Fitz Bridge, which crosses the River Perry on the road between Montford Bridge and Leaton, near the hamlet of Fitz, will be closed for up to two days from Monday, to enable parapet repairs to be undertaken.
The closure is likely to be between 9.30am and 4pm on both days.
Steve Davenport, Shropshire Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport, said the bridge must be closed to traffic while the repairs are being carried out as the road is too narrow for the work to be carried out safely with it still open.
He said: “It is appreciated that the bridge closure will cause some inconvenience, and everyone involved will do all that they reasonably can to reopen it as soon as possible.”
When the road is closed, traffic will be diverted via Grafton, Yeaton, Walford Heath and Leaton.
Access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will remain available at the bridge throughout the work.
