Campaigner’s fears on ‘dangerous’ footpath alongside A41 at Tern Hill
A campaigner has raised concerns about a "dangerous" footpath next to a major road close to his home near Market Drayton.
Brian Jones, 73, has been campaigning for years for improvements to the A41 after raising concerns about road safety.
Mr Jones, who lives in a bungalow close to the A41 at Tern Hill said he is worried about the safety of pedestrians using the footpath along the road.
He said: "A number of years ago I set up a petition and collected more than 300 signatures to get the 40mph speed limit reduced to 30mph.
"Now I am concerned about the people who have to walk alongside the road.
"The road has got busier and busier every year, with huge lorries passing every day.
"They are massive vehicles which use the road.
"Parents and children are too afraid to use the pavement so they are walking on the grass verges instead which has ruined the side of the road.
"I am hoping to set up another petition soon to get the council to widen the pavements. They are too dangerous at the moment and it is a concern."
Mr Jones said he was also angry about the amount of mud which frequently covered his access road.
He added: "Our road has been covered in mud for the last two years. It needs to be sorted and soon.”
Victoria Doran, Shropshire Council’s highways manager – north east, said it would look at the path, but had not received any complaints about it.
She said: “Shropshire Council has not received any reports of problems with the width of the footway at the A41 at Tern Hill, or with mud on the carriageway.
"A technician will investigate and action as necessary. Enquiries of this nature from the public are best made directly to the council via our customer service centre on 0345 678 9000, or via the ‘report it’ function of our website shropshire.gov.uk”
