Chickens escape from back of lorry closing A49 near Ludlow
One of Shropshire’s main roads had to be closed after chickens escaped from the back of a lorry.
The A49 at Woofferton, near Ludlow, had to be closed by police this morning after a number of pallets fell from the back of a lorry and birds escaped.
Police worked to catch the chickens and return them to the lorry and none were harmed in the process.
Nathan Pauley, supervisor in the control room, said: “A lorry was driving on the A49 and for some unknown reason a couple of pallets came off his secure load.
“We are unsure how it happened because it was all secure.
“It resulted in some chickens escaping from the lorry onto the road.
“We don’t know exactly how many escaped, all we know is every single one has been captured and is safely back onto the lorry.
“We closed the road just before 10am just so we could safely get them back on board the lorry and the driver was back on his way after a few minutes, the road was only closed for five minutes.”
