Parts of the A483 near the Shropshire border with north Wales will be closed for two weeks as Wrexham Borough Council attempts to deal with an increasing problem of litter on the roadside.

The authority has been inundated with complaints on social media regarding the amount of rubbish on the side of the A483 from Halton Roundabout near Chirk to the Cheshire boundary.

The council has now decided to take action and a series of planned lane closures will take place for two weeks, up to April 24, to allow staff to clear the roadside.

The authority has also appealed to residents and visitors driving on the road not to throw litter from their cars while the work is taking place.

Councillor David A Bithell, lead member for environment and transport said: “From April 9, litter collection will take place along the A483 from Halton Roundabout to the Cheshire boundary.

"We will also carry out litter collection alongside planned cyclic maintenance.

“I hope residents and visitors appreciate the costs incurred by local councils when collecting litter, at a time of great financial pressures, and we ask members of the public to please dispose of their litter properly.”

Further cleaning will also take place in the future alongside maintenance work planned by the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency.
