Hopes on future of Shropshire A5 improvements as May signals 'end of austerity'
North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson believes the end of austerity could mean a better chance of improvements on the A5 being funded.
In her speech at the Tory party conference, Theresa May set out how austerity was ending, and the government will set out a spending review next year.
Mr Paterson, like many others, has been pushing for road improvements to the A5 and A483, and also for the possible dualling of the A5.
Although a bidding process is a long way away, the former Northern Ireland minister said the end of austerity would be a boost.
He said: "With it coming to an end, it will free up funds possibly further down the line.
"It is good news, and will give us more of a chance of securing funds for these improvements.
"However that is a long way away yet, years away, as we still need to create a plan and put a proposal forward."
