The aerial picture of the finishing touches to the development above the A442 Eastern Primary was taken by Karl Mcadams, of Mcadams Drone Photography.

It shows the rooftops of the two bridges that lead from the town centre to the railway station running side by side over the dual carriageway.

Work will start this month to demolish the old bridge.

Pedestrians travelling between Telford’s station and the town centre will instead use a new £10 million crossing over the A442 dual carriageway.

Telford & Wrekin Council says demolition work on the old footbridge is due to start later this month. The railway section will be pulled down first, followed by the larger road section.

The dismantling effort will result in overnight closures of sections of the A442 and Rampart Way.

Work on the electrics, landscaping and lift installation for the new 240 tonne structure are currently under way and an official opening ceremony is due to the held early spring.

Meanwhile a schools’ competition to find a name for the new bridge closes this Friday. The name will be unveiled at the official opening and the winning pupil will be rewarded with an electronic tablet courtesy of the contractor Balfour Beatty.

Councillor Lee Carter, cabinet member for finance, commercial services and economic development, said: “The new bridge now provides easy access to all as well as being a fitting welcome to our growing town.”
