Rush hour delays on M54 after multi-car crash
Every lane of the M54 was blocked today after a rush hour collision between five vehicles.
The crash involving three cars and two vans happened on the eastbound M54 at about 7.45am, between Junction 3 at Tong and Junction 2 north of Wolverhampton.
Traffic was delayed stretching between Junctions 1 and 4 in both directions.
Several vehicles including a badly damaged van had to be moved from the road, and traffic was congested for up to six miles.
Delays were also reported on the westbound part of the motorway as emergency services responded and motorists slowed near the scene of the crash.
Highways England advised that journeys were delayed by about 40 minutes, and witnesses reported several fire engines, ambulances and police vehicles at the scene on social media.
Murray MacGregor of the West Midlands Ambulance Service said that two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the crash, and that two people had been treated for minor injuries and others assessed.
The A5 near Gailey, north of Junction 2, also became congested as motorists diverted to avoid the scene of the crash near Tong.
The debris on the M54 was cleared and the road re-opened by 9am.
