Councillors backing car park call
Two councillors have added their voices to calls for a car park near a popular open space to be opened permanently.
Wellington resident Paul Kalinauckas has led a campaign to open up the pavilion car park near Bowring District Park for those using the facility.
The 30-space car park is usually used by those hiring the pavilion or changing rooms but with Covid-19 restrictions keeping these facilities closed, residents using the park, its cafe and nearby tennis courts, which are currently open, called for a review.
But in a letter to Mr Kalinauckas, Telford & Wrekin Council’s executive director of housing, communities and customer services said that an agreement was in place with local residents to keep the car park closed, and that opening it would attract anti-social behaviour.
Now Wellington town councillors Phil Morris-Jones MBE and Lisa Jinks have put their weight behind Mr Kalinauckas’ petition.
He said that he was pleased to have town councillors behind him in his campaign, and that “the person in the street” would support calls for the car park to be open.
