Free parking ends as visitors urged to use park and ride

Free parking has now ended in Shropshire Council car parks, but town centre visitors have been encouraged to take advantage of free park and ride services that are being offered.

The offer of free parking was introduced at the council’s car parks to give the economy a boost as non-essential shops opened up for the first time since the third lockdown was introduced.

The deal has now expired, but free park and ride services have been running in Shrewsbury since yesterday.

A Shropshire Council spokesman said: “Our two-week free parking offer ended yesterday, so normal charges now apply in all Shropshire Council car parks for visitors and shoppers.

“But, if you’re visiting Shrewsbury, the park and ride service is free until May 8 – from the Harlescott and Meole Brace sites.”

The Oxon park and ride is expected to return soon, but is currently being used as a free shuttle service to the vaccination centre at Shrewsbury Indoor Bowls Centre in Sundorne.
