Rallying call for better transport links across Shropshire as leaders meet in Westminster
MPs and regional leaders gathered in Westminster today to call for improvements to the road and rail links in Shropshire and neighbouring areas.
There was cross-party and cross-country support for the plea for transport upgrades to bring better connections both within the county and to the Midlands and into Wales.
Among the proposals are speeding up trains between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury to 90mph and upgrading both the A5 and A49 roads through Shropshire.
MPs have joined council bosses and regional businesses in the meeting in the capital.
The Welsh Government, Network Rail and Midlands Connect are also taking part in the rallying call for better transport.
The event, chaired by North Shropshire's Lib Dem MP, Helen Morgan, will also include Conservatives Lucy Allan, from Telford, and Simon Baynes, from Clwyd South.
It is pressing for action after Midlands Connect released a report back in February proposing a series of upgrades to the road and rail links in Shropshire and Herefordshire into Wales.
The report called for increasing the speed and frequency on rail lines and upgrading the A5 and A49. It also pressed for the delivery of long long-promised Pant – Llanymynech bypass on the A483.
