As part of the town council’s objectives to reduce carbon emissions, it currently runs the free 400, 402 and 403 services, operated by Tanat Valley Coaches. This is open to adults and children, with the council encouraging residents to use it to access facilities and services in the town.

Ahead of this Wednesday’s (January 15) meeting, members are being asked to give town clerk, Arren Roberts, delegated powers to conclude an agreement with the operator to extend the deal.

“Council will be aware, via regular updates, of the ongoing discussions regarding extending the Oswestry Town Council funded free Saturday bus travel to include parts of the town not serviced,” said Mr Roberts.

“The town council had an agreement with Qube regarding running a Saturday service to cover these parts of the town, however given that Shropshire Council were recommissioning a revised route, discussions were paused.

“This has now concluded with Tanat Valley Coaches now operating a revised town service route. Whilst there are a number of issues surrounding the matter, from a customer/resident's perspective it would be logical to extend the free Saturday travel to include all parts of the town.”
