British Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls honoured in brick form at Legoland
A new display puts Lego athletes Tom Daley and Hannah Cockroft alongside Parisian landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower.
British Olympians and Paralympians have been reimagined in brick form at Legoland to wish them good luck ahead of Paris 2024.
The new display at the Windsor theme park depicts athletes including gymnast Max Whitlock surrounded by landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower ahead of the Olympic opening ceremony on July 26 in the French capital.
Three model makers used 2,024 Lego bricks over 60 hours to create the exhibit, entitled Going for Gold.
The creation includes wheelchair racer Hannah Cockroft with the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower, heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson holding a javelin outside the Louvre and Tom Daley knitting on a diving board.
Model maker Will Saunders said the team took time to make sure the landmarks were accurate by looking at references of the real buildings and then building them in Lego.
“The most challenging aspect was building the crowd scenes, there’s more than 100 Minilanders here in this scene,” he said.
“They all have their unique personalities, but that was also the most fun part of the build.”
Helen Bull, divisional director at Legoland Windsor Resort, said: “We wanted to find a way to honour our brilliant athletes and wish them good luck in our own unique way.
“Our model makers had a lot of fun creating the amazing scene and we look forward to watching the athletes compete over the next few weeks.”
