Star comment: Future Fit farce is rumbling on

There will come a time when the Future Fit process is something in the past, a matter for the history books.

Or maybe it will simply eventually fizzle out, so that it does not merit a chapter at all, and nobody will be really sure if it was real or just a rumour, a stance, an unrealised ambition.

If it can be strung out for long enough, the requirement to make any decisions at all may be superseded by some seismic event which renders the whole process redundant. Or there could be a philosophical shift, in which the process is actually the policy, and the Future Fit programme is simply a platform for endless talks about what should and should not happen, while the NHS muddles through.

An independent review was announced of Future Fit. Three months on, nobody has yet been appointed to take the chair. The farce continues.

Meanwhile, people are still being treated in Shropshire's hospitals. Those things we have been warned cannot continue as they are, are continuing as they are.

Crisis? What crisis? Or maybe coping in crisis is the new normality.

Shropshire has now been waiting for the Future Fit outcome for years. And still we wait.

Nobody could accuse Salopians of lacking patience.
