Shropshire Star comment: Let’s forget Brexit and be happy

The region will bask in delightfully warm temperatures and there’ll be a number of activities for people of all ages.

Creative and entrepreneurial talents have been at the forefront as we’ve found new ways to celebrate the region’s unique history, culture and heritage.

It’s easy to understand why so many people will decide not to try and get away in coming days given that there’s so much to do.

The great outdoors is right here on our doorstep and there’s a huge number of locations to which people can travel – without becoming snarled up on local motorways.

It’s not just lakes and hills, countryside parks and wildlife reserves that provide attraction.

There are also heritage museums, art galleries and, lest we forget, a number of exceptional independent traders lining local high streets.

But not everyone will share in the Easter good tidings and at this time of year, when there are Bank Holidays upon us, it is incumbent upon us all to spare a thought for those less fortunate.

The elderly and vulnerable will be welcome participants at many events, providing we make the time to include them in the festivities.

And we can also pay more than just a thought to the lonely, needy and alone, who would welcome a little human contact at this time of year. The way we treat those less fortunate says much about our society.

Youngsters, of course, will have the most fun as they take part in Easter Egg hunts and other seasonal activities. And while we can look forward to their smiles and happiness illuminating the day, we must also make sure that they are safe.

The world is not always as secure a place as we might wish it to be and we must take responsibility for the well-being of youngsters.

After a spring dominated by Brexit, many families will be looking forward to switching off, having fun and making the most of activities on their doorstep.
