Letter: Another fine mess
I don't often venture into the soulless and dull world of Telford Town Centre, but last week, my mother came all the way from Yorkshire to visit us.
She wanted to buy some gifts for her new great-granddaughter, so my mum, myself, my daughter and the baby all went off to shop in town.
We parked near the Mothercare shop and spent about an hour or so there.
Then we walked over to Sainsbury's for some shopping and a coffee break before looking at some of the other shops.
Imagine my surprise to receive a letter telling me that I had been parked too long at the retail park, and had been given a penalty of £100.
Now I am not disputing that I went over the time limit.
However, I do think that such a large fine is very heavy-handed.
A letter of warning would perhaps have been more appropriate and charitable. It's not as if I make a habit of it.
I have only been to Telford three times all year and I don't usually park there.
So this is a warning to others planning a trip to the shops in Telford.
Keep an eye on the time. For myself, I will go back to shopping on the internet and in local centres, anywhere but Telford.
To be so heavily fined for a one-off trip to one of the worst shopping centres in the West Midlands, has totally cured any small desire I may have had to ever visit it again.
