Letter: Share memories of former coal traders

We wonder if any of your older readers can assist us with some memories of Joseph Williams and Son, former coal traders who were in business in Oswestry between 1885 and 1960?

The reason for the enquiry is that as part of our Autumn Steam Gala here on the West Somerset Railway we are having produced for us by Dapol a limited edition (100) 4mm scale model coal wagon in the distinctive livery of the Williams company and would like to have some background information about them.

This need not be confined to the railway side of the business, all items will be welcome so that we can tell a little more of the story. Letters should be sent to Colin Howard, Retail Manager,

West Somerset Railway, The Station, Minehead, TA24 5BG, or e-mailed to shop@wsrail.net

The Gala which takes place between October 3 and 6 will be tribute to the one-time Cambrian Railways network which once linked Shropshire with Mid-Wales and the Welsh Coast.

Futher details of the Gala can be seen at www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk, or obtained by ringing (01643) 704996.
