Letter: Tackle litter in the lanes

I recently visited Naples and was amazed at the amount of rubbish on the roads.

As a cyclist I have the good fortune to ride around the many roads and lanes of Shropshire and recently the amount of rubbish in the hedgerows appears to have grown beyond belief.

The road from Shrewsbury to Ellesmere or Wem is a downright disgrace, I have lived in Shropshire since 1996 and have never seen the hedgerows looking so bad. I must say I agree with the comment that trucks travelling to the recycling plant at Battlefield may be the cause as I have seen trucks without tied down coverings as a previous reader states.

I am sure the operators are making a tidy profit but again it's Joe Bloggs who will pick up the bill in the long run.

I can dodge the potholes but I can't stop to pick up all the litter. This, in my opinion, is now totally out of control and will only get worse unless action is taken now.

Take a drive along any Shropshire road and you will be amazed how much litter there is in every single hedgerow. It is time for the local council to act and find the money to clear it up or fine the trucks and the idiots causing it!
