Letter: Newport is blooming marvellous

Newport In Bloom – what a delight!

Published

What a difference a well planted bed can make to an otherwise concrete walkway in the town.

I love coming to Newport to look at the very individual shops which are so much more interesting than precincts with all the usual shops.

I normally take advantage of the parking at Waitrose to look at these lovely shops before picking up a few essential supplies and heading back home.

Over the last couple of years the bed between Waitrose and the High Street has caught my eye as really sprucing up the place. The planting is very subtle and the creams with geranium reds look wonderful at this time of year.

It really is a case of "coming into the light" after the darkness of the gully going back to my car.

I think the whole of Newport comes alive with all the hanging baskets and planted borders.

Well done to the Newport in Bloom team.
