Letter: Bikers take many risks

I know that a lot of accidents involving motorcycles of late have happened within the Shropshire area and my heart goes out to their families and friends.

However, as an ex-bike rider with experience of driving HGVs I feel that some bikers in our area go some way to creating the situation whereby they have an accident.

I have seen and heard these fast bikes overtake me in my car on double white lines exceeding the national speed limit for that road and on occasions in the face of oncoming traffic just missing the front of my car.

On the morning of May 25 here in Shifnal, a middle-aged biker nearly ran me down while I was on the crossing outside the Co-op store, his mate behind him stopped as indeed did other vehicles. I shouted at him but he carried on, he must have been both blind and deaf as well as stupid.

If you're reading this mate, it's just as well that I did not catch up with you and I hope that your mate tells you and reminds you of the Highway Code.

Ken Poole, Shifnal
