Letter: Madness to shut an A&E

On August 15 our daughter was rushed into Accident and Emergency at Princess Royal Hospital. We arrived at the hospital at approximately 2pm.

Walking through the waiting room to get to where our daughter was, it was full to capacity, people were standing. Once inside the large cubicle area where patients were being seen by doctors every cubicle was in use. We're unsure how many cubicles there are in that area, but as far as we could see they where numbered to 22, and maybe there where many more.

How can we possibly be without this Telford A&E? Or, if A&E goes to Shrewsbury how are all the patients from Telford going to be managed with most probably the same amount of patients in Shrewsbury waiting to be seen by A&E staff at the same time? Or, reverse the situation with Shrewsbury patients arriving in Telford. Is it pure madness to be closing one of them?

Fast forward a few months. Will they be opening one or the other, again spending unnecessary money when faced with the realisation of what they have done?

What is happening regarding the aforementioned is pure short-sighted madness. We saw it on Monday!
