Disgust over EU’s Juncker
I am writing to show my disgust at the recent comments in the papers and media last week by EU boss Jean-Claude Juncker.
He told a conference in Italy on Friday, May 5 that he was speaking in French because “slowly but surely, English is losing importance in Europe”.
He called Brexit a “tragedy”, adding “there should be no doubt whatsoever, it is the UK that is abandoning the EU”. Whether you believe Brexit is right or wrong one thing is for sure, although by vote of the British people the UK is leaving the European Union, we have not and never will abandon Europe.
As good Europeans we very rarely refer back to the Second World War and try to put all those scars and memories behind us but perhaps it is time to remind Mr Juncker that if it had not been for the sacrifice of so many of our armed forces between 1939 and 1945, he would most probably not be in a position to speak French now as he would most probably have been born a German.
He should be utterly ashamed of his comments and the ramifications they could cause.
What the British public have voted for is their right and it is in the interest of all parties to work together during these Brexit negotiations and not to start trading insults. If that is all they can do, then they should not be in the positions that they hold.
