Shropshire Star

A need for more detail

Councillor Nutting’s approach to his appointment as the new leader of Shropshire Council as reported in Shropshire Star, May 17, is most refreshing.

However, there are two items mentioned by Councillor Nutting on which I require further information before I can become enthused.

The first is the idea of a county airport which was I believe a concept launched recently by others. My question is what would be the function of this airport and how would this benefit the general public and economy of Shropshire?

Of the two possible sites suggested by Councillor Nutting – RAF Cosford and Tern Hill – both are located at the eastern extremity of the county and hence not particularly convenient for the great majority of Shropshire residents.

On the second issuewhilst I welcome Councillor Nutting’s enthusiastic promotion of the county’s existing and potential canal network and associated development of tourism on a practical note what plan does he have in mind for linking the Montgomery branch of the Shropshire Union Canal with the Newport canal, the restoration of which is still a pipe dream?
