No choice for Telford roundabout
Telford and Wrekin Council has announced, after some consideration, almost amounting to consultation (quite a few people gave the council its view, often through this newspaper) that it will keep the traffic lights operating on the Ketley Brook roundabout.
When the council announced it would be considering the issue no-one was holding their breath that the council it would change the lights to be part-time ones. I should have put money on the lights staying full time – but I could not find anyone to take my bet!.
The council has found itself an excuse – it will not save the motorists any time if the lights are off. So it appears stopping to let no traffic pass by is not a saving.
What about the frustration that is caused – frustration which makes many motorists speed up and jump the lights? And what about the extra pollution caused by cars stopping and accelerating away again?
There is another consultation going on in the county and many of us think it too is a charade. When the result is announced, I wonder if the Telford Council will cry “foul”?
