What is real nursery cost?
Is it not possible for statistics coming in from the Government and other authorities to be made so simple and clear that everyone from young teenagers to those in their hundreds can understand the real cost of a service, the real money available to the service provider, the real deficits, if any etc?
Here’s a very simplified way, with made-up figures and it applies to an average cost – definitely fiction not fact, just an illustration.
Cost of a free placement in an approved pre-school nursery offering full cover, every day, not just in school terms.
£100 per day to meet required high standards.
£80 per day Government grant.
£20 per day deficit.
So is the Government really giving free places?
This is happening across the board. Saying ‘we will put in £10 billion over the next five years’ is meaningless.
We need to know:
Average cost per head to meet the high standards.
The average money given by Government per head to meet the high standards.
What is the deficit?
To get to, let alone keep the required standards, how will the gap be filled?
The truth please.
