Incensed that Mr Rhodes cannot see people have eating disorder

I read Peter Rhodes' column for 29 May. I am incensed at the comments made regarding the NHS and what he calls ''.

I have not conducted any reliable research, but from the people I know, who do have a weight problem, suffer with an eating disorder.

Anorexia or bulimia are also eating disorders and if a sufferer visits their doctor, with these illnesses then help is given on the NHS, however, it is rare for help to be offered if a sufferer has a compulsive eating disorder. In most cases the patient is told to enrol into a slimming club at a cost to themselves, which can be expensive, at a cost of approximately £5 per week.

I notice he doesn't mention the cost to the NHS that smokers and drug addicts cause, both of which are also self inflicted. Also the fact that epileptics and diabetics, regardless of status, have their prescriptions free, not just the medication for that particular ailment but whatever is requested on that prescription.

It might be prudent in future, for Mr Rhodes, if he wants to 'have a go' at NHS patients and which members of society are responsible for its expenditure, to do his homework to see who exactly is to blame.
