DO DRIVERS NEED TO BE RETESTED?

I was standing at the zebra crossing opposite the Flaxmill on Whitchurch Road on the morning of Friday January 17 at around 8am. I was trying to cross the road. Although a pedestrian on this occasion I also drive.

As an older woman with my dog, do I become invisible? Have the driving laws changed? I was taught that pedestrians have right of way at crossings.

I was shocked to find drivers coming across the brow of the hill from town were not even slowing down. A car passed at speed then a bus! It was light and streetlights were still on. I could see a car just come into sight and took it for granted that he would slow and let me cross. I got to halfway before the car slowed down and allowed me to cross. Have I missed something?  Come on drivers, common sense and courtesy should still prevail on our roads!
