ARTS CENTRE TO MARK MILESTONE

English Bridge Workshops on Abbey Foregate is celebrating 40 years as a community arts centre. We’ll be holding an exhibition and events from June 14 to 22. We are collecting stories, artwork and historic documents connected to the building. If any of your readers have memories or photographs of time spent in the workshops over the past 40 years we would love to hear from them. Perhaps they volunteered or had an exhibition here or attended one of the many workshops or music events that have taken place?

Also, do any readers remember a book of interviews with former pupils of the old Abbey National School at the English Bridge, published in 1989? The school closed in 1957. We are two artists with studios at the centre and we’d like to hear from anyone with memories of the school or stories told by family members about it.

We’d especially love to hear from friends or family of ex-pupils Ernie Williams, Cath Perry, Cyril Jones, Edna Jones, Nancy Skone or Leslie Evans, who featured in the 1989 book edited by Joyce Challis. Any contributions, written stories, artwork, or documents (marked 40th anniversary and with contact details) can be dropped off at English Bridge, or drop us a line at School Project, English Bridge Workshop, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, SY2 6AD.
