Dozens feared dead after Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashes in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstani officials say that more than 50 rescuers are at the scene.

Forty-two people are likely to have died in an Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash in the Kazakhstani city of Aktau, Kazakhstan’s emergency ministry has said.

The ministry confirmed in a statement on the Telegram messaging app that 67 people, including five crew, were on board the plane.

It added that 25 of them have survived the crash, according to preliminary assessment, and 22 of them have been admitted to hospital.

The Embraer 190 aircraft made an emergency landing at Aktau airport, Azerbaijan Airlines said.
