Consultants have drawn up a draft report on how the river could be regenerated in the next 20 years.

David Griffiths, manager of Destination Shrewsbury, said one possibility could see benches created along the river for people to enjoy it during a visit to the new theatre which is being built at Frankwell.

"Frankwell is one those areas suggested in the plan. With the new theatre people could come to the theatre by boat, have a drink and meal sat outside, go to the theatre and then get on the boat and go back home." said Dave Griffiths.

The new plans could mean boats using the river more and seating being provided at certain parts of the river for people to enjoy, in addition to a raft of other ideas to improve the area along the waterway.

"There could be one or two key points along the river that are places where people can enjoy the river," said Dave Griffiths.

Suggestions in the plan include a Charles Darwin nature reserve, pontoons, river rangers and a river festival, which could attract more than 5,000 people.

The consultants have also put together a series of pictures of how Shrewsbury's riverside areas could look, based on other towns.
