In a separate incident a fully laden 48-tonne lorry overturned on a roundabout in Shrewsbury after its load moved, leaving one lane of the busy A5 closed.
The K&J Logistics lorry, from Hull, which was carrying wooden pallets, overturned at the Edgebold island where the A5 Shrewsbury bypass meets with the A488 Hanwood Road, at about 1.50pm yesterday.
Firefighters were called to the scene but the driver of the lorry was released from the vehicle before they arrived. One lane of the eastbound section of the road was closed between the B4386 and the A488 yesterday afternoon following the incident.
A spokeswoman for the Highways Agency said: "We then closed the road in the eastbound direction at 8pm to recover the load, the vehicle itself and the debris. The road re-opened at 5am today."
Meanwhile, motorists faced rush-hour delays after two cars and a bus collided on one of Shrewsbury's busiest islands later in the day. The shunt happened on the Meole Brace island at about 5.15pm yesterday and involved a bus, a Renault Megane and a Honda Jazz.
