Record numbers at Llanfyllin Show

More than 7,000 people flocked into Llanfyllin this weekend to celebrate its 139th annual show.

Organisers of the show, which takes place at Bodfach Hall Park in Llanfyllin, said the event on Saturday attracted "record" numbers.

Olwen Roberts, show secretary, said the unsettled weather had failed to dampen the spirits of those who attended.

She said: "We had an excellent day and attendance figures were definitely up on previous years.

"All in all it was a superb event and we are all really pleased with the way things went.

"We also changed the layout at this year's show and we think it went down very well with showgoers. We made it more compact and even introduced a village green which had music playing throughout the day."

She said the event had featured horse shows, children's competitions, dog and sheep shows and all the usual horticultural, handicrafts and cookery competitions.

"It is an event for the whole family to come and enjoy and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves a lot," she said.

"Entries for the floral art had more than doubled this year and the shearing competition also went down extremely well."

She said many entries for the sheep, horse and goat sections had also been received and all entries had been of a "superb" standard.
