The award winning snapper from Newport has just added to the joy of his job – by winning a top gong in the British Wildlife Photography Awards in the 'wildlife on video' category for his stunning film of a great crested grebe family.

He was not the only photographer whose images of wildlife were today hailed at the awards sponsored by the Daily Telegraph.

David Biggs from Bayston Hill near Shrewsbury, won in the urban wildlife category for his portrayal of a starling murmuration, captured against an atmospheric early morning sunrise.

Nobody can argue that photographers aren't dedicated to their art. Mark, 47, spent five weeks sitting in water to get his video of the grebe family, which he says was captured at a location in Telford.

"For the first couple of weeks I was filming and taking photographs from the bank of the water," says Mark who used the video facility on his SLR camera for the project.
